In this Update:
Robinson Opens New Office in Franklin ParkIt’s official: my new office in Franklin Park is open and ready to serve constituents! Thank you to the Heritage Center for welcoming me into their office building on Brandt School Road. My staff and I are excited to expand our constituent services to the North Hills. I appreciate everyone who took time out of their day to attend the grand opening, including my friends from the Pittsburgh North Regional Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Dennis O’Keefe of Franklin Park Borough, and officials from neighboring boroughs including Ohio Township, Ben Avon Heights, and Leetsdale. We also had a special visit from Mindy McCartney, who presented me with a quilt made in memory of a Marine who was killed in Afghanistan. I was honored to receive this and will proudly display it in my new office. My office in Bethel Park will remain open as well. My staff and I can assist you with a variety of state-related services, including PennDOT forms, Property Tax and Rent Rebate applications, birth and death certificate applications, status reports on legislation, and more. My Senate colleagues and I heard from panelists from several organizations, including UPMC, PA National Guard, Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, Millwright Local 443, Pittsburgh Hires Veterans, and Per Scholas. We had a great discussion about the available programs to support veterans, especially as they transition from military to civilian life and seek gainful employment. I look forward to continuing to work together to best support our veterans and their participation in the workforce. Read more about the programs we discussed here. Robinson Designates March as Irish American Heritage MonthSt. Patrick’s Day may be over, but the celebration of Irish heritage continues! I was proud to introduce Senate Resolution 41 designating March 2025 as Irish American Heritage Month. The resolution honors the rich history of Irish heritage in Pennsylvania and celebrates the contributions of the Irish to our commonwealth. I am also pleased to honor Irish heritage throughout the year as a co-chair of the American Irish State Legislators Caucus and with Act 116 of 2024, which established an Ireland Trade Commission between Ireland and Pennsylvania. Online Unclaimed Property Auction – March 26 and 27Pennsylvania’s next auction of unclaimed property – including jewelry, collectible coins, currency and more – will take place on March 26 and 27. Treasurer Stacy Garrity said more than 5,500 items will hit the auction block, and anyone interested in bidding can register on the website of the Pennsylvania Treasury Department’s auctioneer partner, Pook & Pook. Unclaimed tangible property, like the items being auctioned, comes to Treasury most often from forgotten safe deposit boxes. Treasury works to find the rightful owner for at least three years before auctioning an item but holds auctions twice a year to make room for incoming property in Treasury’s vault – the largest working vault in the country. All items sold at auction are carefully documented, and net proceeds remain with Treasury until a rightful owner comes forward to claim the property – no matter how much time passes. Treasury is working to return more than $4.5 billion in unclaimed property that is owed to more than one in 10 Pennsylvanians. The average value of a claim is about $1,600. This money can belong to individuals, businesses, nonprofits, local government entities and other organizations. Anyone can search for unclaimed property online. My office is also always glad to help you file a claim or to answer any of your questions. Protect Your Home from a FloodFlooding is the most frequent and expensive U.S. natural disaster. Yet, it’s not typically covered through most homeowners and renter’s insurance. More than 20% of the National Flood Insurance Program’s claims come from outside high-risk flood areas. Those who live in areas with low-to-moderate flooding risk are five times more likely to experience a flood than a fire in their home in the next 30 years. You can determine your risk using this flood map. Checking your policy and consulting your agent to confirm that flood perils are included in your insurance can save you. Review flood insurance basics so you know how to protect your home. Upcoming Identity Theft Prevention EventLooking to shred old documents? My office will host an identity theft prevention event with Rep. Andrew Kuzma on Saturday, March 29 from 9AM-11AM at South Park High School. There is a limit of two boxes per person. Please call my office with any questions. Remembering the Battle of NasiriyahMarch 23rd marks twenty-two years since the Battle of Nasiriyah, a battle which is an important part of Marine Corps history. On this day in 2003, nearly 5,800 U.S. Marines led the charge for this first large-scale battle in Operation Iraqi Freedom. This was the first battle for many of these Marines, including myself. I am honored to have served alongside my fellow Marines of the The U.S. 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, named Task Force Tarawa. With little to no sleep, U.S forces moved quickly toward their objective on orders to secure and protect the bridges surrounding Nasiriyah. When reports came in that an Army unit that included Pfc. Jessica Lynch had been ambushed, Alpha Company detoured to recover the servicemembers. After that, the battalion continued. Alpha Company secured the first bridge (Euphrates Bridge), and Charlie and Bravo Companies executed their courses of action just as planned initially. The Companies pushed forward intending to take the northern bridge but were met with thick mud and high water levels which entrapped their vehicles. Charlie Company adjusted course and moved through Ambush Alley and endured heavy fire from both sides before reaching the Saddam Canal Bridge. Charlie Company sustained heavy casualties. Alpha and Bravo Companies followed to consolidate the battalion in a successful effort to repel enemy attack and open up a route for Regimental Combat Team 1 to push through the city to Baghdad. The battle eventually ended on April 2, 2003, by defeating the Iraqi forces there. We lost 18 Marines on the first day and several more throughout the course of that battle. Our unit was tight, and many knew each other, so when the casualties occurred, it was like losing a brother for many of us. I am humbled when I think of those we lost and I am honored to have served as part of Task Force Tarawa with the 2nd Battalion 8th Marines. You can read more about the Battle of Nasiriyah here.
I’m proud to represent you in Harrisburg. Please contact me if my team can assist you with any state-level issues or services, including PennDOT, PA Department of Revenue, PA Department of Aging, PA State Treasury, etc. I’m always happy to hear from constituents, but if you need assistance or have concerns regarding a federal issue, you may want to contact your U.S. Senators and/or your member in the U.S. House of Representatives. Thank you. For anyone who hasn’t already signed up to receive my e-newsletters, you can get on the mailing list here. |
