In this Update:
Community HighlightsI had a wonderful time at Ohio Township Community Day! Thank you to the township officials for the warm welcome and to our first responders for providing great activities. Until next time! The Bank of New York Mellon facility at 500 Ross Street – the bank’s largest employee base in North America – was recently renovated. Founded by Andrew Mellon and merged in 2007, BNY has been a part of downtown Pittsburgh for more than 150 years. Congratulations to President & CEO Robin Vince and the entire staff on your success! After falling victim to pollution over 100 years ago, the Blue Catfish was reintroduced to our cleaner rivers by the PA Fish and Boat Commission. I was happy to help release about 2300 yearlings at the Leetsdale Borough Boat Launch. Give these fish time to grow – blue catfish can reach between 30-70 pounds! Robinson Secures Funding for Local Flood Mitigation EffortsI was thrilled to help secure funding for Char-West Council of Governments for the purpose of purchasing a Combination Vacuum Hydro Jet Sewer Truck. Made in the USA, this state-of-the-art machine will help in flood mitigation and relieve sewer issues for at least twelve communities in our region and PennDOT. I appreciate the bipartisan support of my colleagues who also advocated for the funding for this crucial equipment purchase. Bill to Expand Body Camera Use for Law Enforcement Passes SenateTo boost safety and accountability, the Senate passed legislation to expand the use of body-worn cameras to additional law enforcement personnel. The measure was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Senate Bill 520 authorizes the use of body cameras by special agents with the Office of Attorney General, rangers with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and officers and deputies with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Fish and Boat Commission. The bill also modernizes the legal framework for body camera usage to ensure consistency in how footage is recorded and managed, regardless of the department using it. This builds on Act 53 of 2023, my legislation to allow state parole agents to wear body cameras which increases transparency of both the agent and the parolee. Glad to see more protection and accountability to better protect our law enforcement community! Take My Minimum Wage Survey!Pennsylvania’s minimum wage is an ongoing debate, with several bills introduced in recent years that would increase it in various ways. The Labor and Industry Committee is where these bills are initially considered within the Senate. As chair of this Committee, I want to hear from YOU, my constituents, on minimum wage. Please take this survey to share your thoughts here! Flooded Roads: Turn Around, Don’t DrownSevere flooding has devasted our region and many other parts of the country this summer. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those who lost loved ones in the catastrophic floods in Kerr County, Texas. More than half of flood-related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into flood water. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away most cars. Please play it safe and don’t drive around barricades on flooded roads. Never willingly walk, swim or drive through flood waters. You can sign up for emergency alerts here and use 511PA to stay informed on road closures and severe weather conditions. Celebrate National Ice Cream Month with PA CreameriesWith nearly 5,000 dairy farms, Pennsylvania ranks third nationally in ice cream production. You can make your summer sweeter by visiting PA creameries through Scooped: An Ice Cream Trail. The trail connects dairy farm families and ice cream lovers at 52 destinations statewide. Travelers can plan their adventures, learn about participating creameries and accumulate redeemable points by visiting trail stops and making purchases. Find a list of participating creameries, their features and sign-up information here.
I’m proud to represent you in Harrisburg.
