Robinson Attends Ceremonies Honoring Veterans

I was honored to attend the Vietnam Veterans Inc. of Pittsburgh’s annual picnic. For 50 years, the members have been dedicated to assisting veterans in need. It was wonderful to celebrate 250 years of the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps while remembering our POW/MIA and those who gave all and made the ultimate sacrifice.

It was a privilege to attend a memorial service for the Tuskegee Airmen at the Sewickley Cemetery. Thank you to the Allegheny Commandery No. 35 Knights Templar of PA for sponsoring this service and to all of those who attended. To our brave airmen, active-duty military, veterans, and the service members who gave their lives – we offer our deepest gratitude for your service and sacrifice.

Robinson Legislation Passes Senate and Committee  

Last week, Senate Bill 416: Modernizing Fundraising for Local Non-Profits has unanimously passed the Senate! This bill would allow charitable organizations, like VFWs, to accept electronic payments – such as credit cards, debit cards and online platforms like PayPal or Venmo – for raffle tickets. I am proud to sponsor Senate Bill 416 along with my colleague Senator Wayne Fontana. This bill now heads to the House of Representatives for consideration. Read more about the legislation here.

I was thrilled to see my legislation, Senate Bill 533, pass out of the Senate Game and Fisheries Committee! This legislation would allow disabled veterans and Purple heart recipients to be exempt from certain license and permit fee requirements. Read more about the legislation here.  

American Legion Appointments

On the second Tuesday of each month, my office hosts a benefits expert from the American Legion. If you would like to schedule an appointment with the representative, you may call my office to see available times.

Veterans Job Listing

Every week, the Pennsylvania Nation Guard Association updates its free job board with good openings for National Guard members, Veterans and their families across Pennsylvania and in nearby states. The board features nearly 10,000 employment and internship postings.

Recognizing Korean War Veterans Armistice Day

In June, the Senate passed Senate Bill 511 to designate July 27 as Korean War Veterans Armistice Day and require the governor to issue a proclamation each year to encourage schools to observe Korean War Veterans Armistice Day and recognize the contributions and sacrifices made by those involved in the Korean War.

The bill awaits further action by the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee in the House of Representatives.

Military Lifetime National Parks Pass

The U.S. Geological Survey offers a free lifetime America the Beautiful pass to all veterans and Gold Star Families to receive free admission to all National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands.

• Veterans must have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves, and be able to present a non-expired Department of Defense Identification Card, Veteran Health Identification Card, Veteran ID Card or Veterans designation on a state-issued U.S. driver’s license or identification card.
• The pass admits the pass owner and any accompanying passengers in a non-commercial vehicle at per-vehicle fee areas – or the pass owner and up to three additional adults at sites that charge per person.
• The pass is free to pick up in person or $10 to receive by mail.
