Honoring Our Fallen Heroes on Memorial Day

It was another wonderful and meaningful Memorial Day Weekend honoring our fallen heroes. I enjoyed attending events throughout the 37th District and around town. This weekend and each and every day, we must honor our service members who gave their lives in service to our nation. Thank you to everyone who organized these events and took the time to participate.

“If Not Me, Then Who…?” I was proud to participate in a ceremony properly honoring and keeping alive the memories of those who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms while also recognizing their Gold Star families. Thank you to the Travis Manion Foundation, The Honor Project, and the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies for this special Memorial Day Weekend Token of Remembrance Event.

It was my privilege to join the 60-member crew and officials at U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Osage Sewickley to participate in the wreath laying ceremony. The station is part of the 8th District of the US Coast Guard. Thank you for your service.

I visited The Wall That Heals at its stop in Shaler Township. The Wall That Heals is a smaller replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. that travels around the country. It was a sobering experience seeing this memorial honoring our Vietnam veterans.

Great to join Mayor Tom Mackin and many residents from Thornburg Borough for their annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony. Thank you to all who attended.

I started off Memorial Day in Collier Township at their annual ceremony where we were joined by BSA Scout Troops 9860 and 860, as well as Oakdale VFW Post 7070 and American Legion 171. Thank you to the township officials for organizing this ceremony every year.

It was a great annual Memorial Day ceremony in Bethel Park, featuring many local veterans and performances from student musicians of Bethel Park High School.

I had a great time at the Sewickley Memorial Day celebration! It was wonderful to spend time with some of our first responders and members from the Marine Corps League, too.

Neighbors lined up for the Memorial Day parade and ceremony in Bridgeville and South Fayette. American Legion Post 54 also participated to honor the sacrifice of those who died serving our country.

The Memorial Day ceremony in Jefferson Hills featured performances by the Thomas Jefferson High School Marching Band. Great job to these young musicians!

I was honored to speak at the Memorial Day Service at the Ben Avon Community Presbyterian Church. It was wonderful to join community members and my friend and colleague from the state House, Rep. Arvind Venkat.

There’s always a huge crowd for the Coraopolis Memorial Day Parade! I enjoyed seeing many new and familiar faces.

Happy to stop by the Glenfield Valley Veterans Association for their Memorial Day picnic. Thank you to Commander Erin Miller and crew for the great food and camaraderie!

Homeless Children’s Education Fund Policy Event

It is not isolated to certain zip codes: good people and families struggle throughout our region. I had the opportunity to serve as a panelist at the Homeless Children’s Education Fund policy event to hear from community leaders and students about this problem.

Often suffering quietly, an estimated 46,000 students across PA are in crisis and in need of stability. Aside from not having a steady place to sleep, 52% of homeless students are chronically absent from school, as well.

Robinson Attends Veterans Recognition Ceremony

It was wonderful to visit Friendship Village of South Hills for their Veterans Recognition Ceremony. I had the pleasure to help present certificates to these outstanding veterans with my colleague Rep. Natalie Mihalek. Thank you all for your service.

Robinson Receives CCAC Degree

Nineteen years after first enrolling at Community College of Allegheny County, I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business. Back then, I had just been discharged from the Marines, returned home from Fallujah after my third deployment in as many years, and wanted to start my collegiate career while looking for a place to live and work. CCAC provided the foundation I was looking for.

Thank you to President Bullock and Dr. Stephen Wells for guiding me through this process. The CCAC team has created a well-respected program for the region to learn. Congratulations to my fellow graduates of the Class of 2025!

Upper St. Clair Teams Recognized for WPIAL, State Championships

Congratulations are in order for Upper St. Clair High School! I had the pleasure to meet some exceptional young students who won WPIAL and PIAA state championships and present congratulatory citations with my colleagues, Rep. Natalie Mihalek and Rep. Dan Miller. Thank you to Dr. Wagner and Athletic Director Dan Holzer for helping facilitate this event.

It was a pleasure to meet students from the Boys Swim Team, Speech & Debate Team, E-Sports Team, and the Boys and Girls Basketball Teams. A few students from the Boys Basketball Team challenged Rep. Miller and me to a game of hoops – next time we will come prepared with our athletic gear! Congratulations to all!

Bill to Increase Firefighters in PA Receives Senate Support

Pennsylvania relies on volunteer firefighters, but their numbers are dropping – from 300,000 in the 1970s to fewer than 38,000 today. To help ensure there are enough firefighters to respond to a crisis, the Senate passed a bill that would reform the process for people earning their firefighter certification.

Senate Bill 90 would maintain the high standards to become a firefighter while making it less intimidating for men and women who are interested in serving their communities as volunteer firefighters. Currently, firefighter applicants must complete four training modules totaling 188 hours. They then must pass a cumulative test covering all four modules. The bill would allow them to be tested following each of the four modules.

Senate Bill 90 heads to the House of Representatives for further consideration.

Enjoy a Great American Getaway in PA

Tourism is an important part of Pennsylvania’s economy. In 2022, the most recent year with available data, we welcomed more than 192 million travelers and benefited from $45 billion in visitor spending.

The commonwealth has a lot to offer, even to people who call it home. Find some great ideas for vacations and day trips here.

PRT Funding Survey

Funding for the Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) has been a topic of conversation in recent months. I know many of my constituents utilize PRT on a regular basis. As we begin budget negotiations and navigate state funding for this organization, my office is conducting a survey to understand how my constituents are feeling about this state appropriated funding for PRT.

I welcome your feedback so I can best represent my constituents as we navigate state funding for the PRT. Please feel free to share your thoughts with me here.  Thank you for taking a few minutes to share your feedback!
