Tour of FNB Stadium

Sen. Robinson and members of the Senate Labor & Industry committee stand on FNB Stadium Field in front of the Pittsburgh skyline.

It was great to join fellow members of the Senate Labor & Industry Committee last week for a tour of FNB Stadium, the home of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds!

See more photos from the tour here.

Allegheny County Volunteer Firefighters Awards Event

Senator Robinson presenting a citation at the Allegheny County Volunteer Firefighters Award event.

Last weekend, I attended the Allegheny County Volunteer Firefighters Awards event where I was able to honor the families of Brandon McCrea and the late Chief Daniel Moore with citations from the Senate.

See more photos from the event here.

Examining PA’s Nursing Shortage

Sen. Robinson speaks in front of a TV camera with a reporter in a pink dress who holds a microphone out to him.

I was pleased to chat with WTAE last week at the roundtable discussion to examine nursing workforce shortages in Pennsylvania and the role private universities play in developing the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Senate Votes to Protect Your Right to Know About Government Actions

Government meeting room with citizens seated in foreground and officials on raised dais in background.

The Senate recently unanimously approved legislation to strengthen government transparency and protect the public’s right to know.

Senate Bill 1150 would clarify Pennsylvania’s Sunshine Act to ensure public agencies provide meaningful notice before acting on important matters. The bill reinforces the 24-hour agenda posting requirement and ensures exceptions for emergencies and small-scale matters remain limited.

The legislation follows a state Supreme Court ruling allowing agencies to add agenda items and take official action on them with a simple majority vote, even when those items were not included on a publicly posted agenda. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Read more about legislation to strengthen the Sunshine Act here.

Veterans Breakfast Club Grand Opening

Congratulations to Todd DePastino and the Veterans Breakfast Club team on the grand opening of an official home for the Veterans Breakfast Club and its commitment to our heroes! Thank you for connecting veterans of all branches, their stories, their values, and our community at Phase 4 Learning Center in East Liberty.

See more photos of the new facility here.

Funding Secured in the 37th District

I was glad to see the Coraopolis Community Development Corporation and the Sweetwater Center for the Arts in Sewickley were each awarded $100,000 from the Keystone Historic Preservation grant program by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission! This funding will help ensure the Commonwealth’s foundational history remains a vibrant part of its future.

Learn more about this funding here.

Making it Easier for Fire Companies, EMS Agencies to Access Funding

Fire truck and EMS ambulance parked outside.

Legislation to make it easier for fire and EMS agencies to access state funding through the Fire and EMS Grant program was approved by the Senate.

Senate Bill 1261 streamlines the application process, including eliminating outdated wording and incentives, using the state’s Single Application for Assistance instead of having a separate, redundant system, and asking fire companies to provide additional contact information to ensure lines of communication are open.

The bill also increases the amount fire and EMS agencies can borrow through the State Fire Commissioner’s low-interest loan program, freeing up more funding opportunities for first responder agencies. Senate Bill 1261 now advances to the House of Representatives. Read more about these proposed improvements here.

Partnering with the American Cancer Society for Paid Leave Policy

Sen. Robinson stands with 3 representatives from the American Cancer Society in a PA Capitol committee meeting room.

I’m proud to partner with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Pennsylvania to advance legislation to establish a statewide paid family and medical leave program.

Pennsylvania workers should not have to sacrifice their financial security during major life events.

Learn more about my bill here.

Little TT’s Grand Opening

Congratulations to Little TT’s Academy & Learning Center on their grand opening! This facility will be a great place for preschoolers to learn and grow, and we’re glad to have it in our community.

See more photos from the ribbon cutting here.

Flying the POW/MIA Flag at Public Schools

U.S. flag on flag pole with POW/MIA flag underneath set against blue sky

The Senate unanimously voted to require the POW/MIA flag be displayed at any public school in the commonwealth that already displays the American flag, provided the school can reasonably accommodate it.

By meeting the requirement of Senate Bill 835 schools can help ensure the sacrifices of prisoners of war and those missing in action are never forgotten and demonstrate their commitment to supporting military families and educating students about the importance of service.

The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Read more about Senate Bill 835 here.

Identity Theft Event for Seniors in Pleasant Hills

Blue graphic that says “Protect Yourself. Identity Theft & Scam Prevention Event. Don’t let scammers win-learn how to stay safe”

On Thursday, June 25, at 1 p.m., the Allegheny Police Department and AAA are hosting an Identity Theft & Scam Prevention Event at the Pleasant Hills Borough Building. The event will teach people how to spot scams, protect their identities, what to do if you are targeted, as well as provide tips to keep your family safe. This is a FREE event and open to everyone in the community.

Happy 251st Birthday to the US Army

graphic with a green background that says” United States Army Birthday”

On June 14, we celebrated the U.S. Army’s 251st birthday! Thank you to all our soldiers for their service, both past and present.

Happy Father’s Day

Man wearing backpack holding hand with small son and walking along path in park

On Sunday, we celebrate fathers and fatherhood, and honor the dads who influenced us throughout our lives. Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and father figures who contribute so much to our families and communities.

Celebrating Juneteenth

A graphic with a black background that says “Juneteenth” in white letters and features a geometric border of yellow, red, and green.

Yesterday was Juneteenth, where we celebrated the official end of slavery in America when the last remaining slaves in Galveston, Texas were freed over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

National Rivers Month

A graphic featuring a river surrounded by green trees that says, “National Rivers Month.”

June is National Rivers Month, and it’s no secret that the three rivers are a large part of Pittsburgh’s identity.

That’s why I’ve introduced bipartisan legislation to update and expand the existing Pennsylvania Waterfront Development Tax Credit Program. This tax credit is an essential tool that helps communities fulfill the potential of their waterways.

Learn more about the legislation here.
