Community Highlights

Eat n’ Park on Rt 50 in Collier Township has officially reopened! I celebrated with some friends before their softball game. I had the new and delicious Bacon Jam Burger with a vanilla milkshake and of course the smiley cookie for dessert!

Thrilled to work with Rep. Natalie Mihalek to secure funding for a new police vehicle for the South Hills Area Council of Governments! We checked out the vehicle at the Bethel Park Police Department.

I stopped by the Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park Rotary Club’s BBQ Chicken Dinner drive through last weekend! The meal was delicious, and the proceeds benefited local charities. Thank you for giving back to our community!

Robinson Bill Signed into Law

I am pleased to see legislation which I prime-sponsored, Senate Bill 1274, signed into law as Act 143 of 2024. This legislation modernizes the requirements for sign language interpreters in Pennsylvania. It creates new pathways for certification, addresses outdated standards, and streamlines the criteria for interpreter registration.

This bill received strong bipartisan, bicameral support in the legislature and was supported by advocacy groups across the Commonwealth. You can read more here.

Urban Search and Rescue Bill Signed into Law

Urban search and rescue is now law! I am thrilled to see Act 113 of 2024 signed into law, officially authorizing the establishment of an urban search and rescue task force in western PA. This task force will complement Task Force One in southeastern PA and will bring vital emergency response capabilities to our region.

I fought hard to secure $6 million in funding in the 2024-25 state budget for this task force, which will have highly trained firefighters, engineers, medical professionals, canine handlers, and emergency managers. I am grateful for the bipartisan support of this legislation to ensure we are better equipped to handle emergencies in western PA.

Bill Strengthening PA’s International Relations Signed into Law

I am thrilled to say another companion bill of mine was signed into law this week. This legislation, Act 116 of 2024, will create an Ireland Trade Commission. I was proud to sponsor the Senate version of this legislation, Senate Bill 1121, which received strong bipartisan support.

Nearly 16% of Pennsylvanians are of Irish descent. The commission is a tribute to our deep Irish roots and aims to strengthen the educational, economic, governmental, and cultural connections between our commonwealth and Ireland. You can learn more about this new partnership here.

Robinson Companion Legislation Signed into Law

Making our streets safer: I was thrilled to see the House version of my legislation to combat illegal street racing signed into law as Act 103 of 2024. This legislation will help reduce dangerous driving behaviors by increasing penalties for repeat traffic offenders, updating vehicle impoundment procedures, and deterring highway racing. I appreciate the bipartisan support of my colleagues to see this bill across the finish line to ensure safer communities across our Commonwealth. Read more here.

PA Families to Receive More Support Saving for the Future

Families saving for educational expenses and costs for those with disabilities could soon have more support from their employers, thanks to recent legislation.

A tax credit will encourage employers to contribute to their employees’ PA 529 College and Career Savings Program accounts and PA ABLE accounts. Beginning January 2025, employers will receive a 25% tax credit on matching employer contributions of up to $500 per employee per year.

The law helps employers offer their employees a significant benefit so they can attract the best workers while receiving a financial incentive themselves.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5

Election Day is on Tuesday, Nov. 5, and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you are in line by 8 p.m., you will be able to vote.

If you would like to vote with a mail-in or absentee ballot, your county election office must receive it by Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 8 p.m. Track your ballot to confirm it was received.

Any voter who requested to vote using a mail-in or absentee ballot but would prefer to vote in person may do so. Bring the ballot and the envelope to surrender at the polls. If you don’t have those materials, you may vote using a provisional ballot. Call 1-877-VOTESPA (1-877-868-3772) if you experience any issues.

Time to Turn Clocks Back This Weekend

Daylight saving time will end at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, so Pennsylvania residents should turn their clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday night.

Biannual time changes can be a great reminder to check or change the batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms should be replaced every 10 years and located near bedrooms and on each level of the residence.
