The 2026 Sewickley Memorial Day Parade was a success! Many neighbors and community members came together to honor the true meaning of this holiday.

I also want to thank McCandless-Franklin Park Ambulance Authority for hosting such a great Memorial Day ceremony for veterans and first responders last weekend. It was a special evening to honor those who have served at home and abroad.

America250PA Podcast: Answering the Call: A Memorial Day Conversation

A graphic featuring a photo of Sen. Robinson standing at a podium smiling accompanied by information about the podcast episode.

Thanks to America250PA for highlighting so many uniquely Pennsylvania stories as we head into our nation’s semiquincentennial celebration. I was honored to be a guest on their podcast series to talk about my military service, PA’s military history, and the sacrifice of those who never made it home.

Listen to the full episode here.

WWII Veteran, Emily Drake, Awarded RMU Honorary Degree

Sen. Robinson stands next to Emily Drake at the Robert Morris University 2026 commencement ceremony. Emily is wearing a graduation gown.

At the Robert Morris University commencement ceremony, 100-year-old WWII veteran, Emily Drake, was awarded an honorary degree. Emily was enrolled at Robert Morris in 1944 when she dropped out to enlist in the U.S. Army to join the war effort and never finished her degree. Congratulations to Emily on this incredible recognition!

Fourth Annual Women Veterans Day Commemoration

Woman veteran saluting.

Next week, we recognize Women Veterans Appreciation Day. Thank you to all the women veterans for their service to our country.

The fourth annual Women Veterans Day Commemoration to honor the service, sacrifice, and contributions of women who have served in the U.S. military will be held at the Pennsylvania State Capitol on June 10 at 11:30 a.m.

A virtual “What Service Means to Me” display featuring pictures of and reflections from women veterans will be available online here beginning June 8.

Read more about this special commemoration here.

Display of the Constitutional Preambles in Schools

The cover of the U.S. Constitution.

In May, the Senate passed legislation requiring the posting of the preambles of the U.S. Constitution and the Pennsylvania Constitution in the entranceway of public school buildings. I was proud to vote in favor of both bills to ensure Pennsylvania students are reminded of the historical significance of these key documents.

Nearly $600 Million in Infrastructure Improvements Approved by VA

Two men sitting outside of PA Veterans Home in Erie

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) approved $596 million in VA infrastructure improvements in the second quarter of fiscal year 2026. The funds will be used by VA medical facilities to improve operational capability and overall healthcare delivery by making significant upgrades.

This includes funds for 24 projects for Pennsylvania’s VA medical facilities to renovate a prosthetics lab in Altoona, replace a roof in Butler, replace windows in Lebanon, repair a heat exchanger in Philadelphia, structural reinforcements in Pittsburgh, and more.

Baseball Season Deals

Many Major League Baseball teams, including the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies, offer discounted tickets to veterans. Minor league teams do as well, including our local Washington Wild Things, which offer a daily discount of $10 for military servicemen and women.

Easier Access to CDL Training for Veterans

Semi truck hauling refrigerated cargo trailer on interstate highway

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs implemented part of the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act (Dole Act) to improve how certain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training programs are approved for VA education benefits.

Previously, new CDL training locations were required to meet the full approval requirements of a new CDL training program, which included a two-year minimum operating period, and have its site approved by the appropriate state approving agency before being able to enroll G.I. Bill students.

Now, new CDL training locations can be exempt from this two-year operating period requirement if they:

  • Offer the same curriculum as an approved location in the same state; or
  • Have been operating for at least one year and offer the same curriculum as an approved location in another state.

Currently, these changes apply only to CDL programs, but the VA will be studying the impact to determine whether this could be applied to other vocational programs in the future.

PA Hero Walk

People walking in 2025 PA Hero Walk

The PA Hero Walk – a 320-mile segmented fundraising walk across Pennsylvania to raise money to help veterans with basic necessities including utility bills, housing, and more – will take place from June 7 through June 20. Since beginning in 2009, the PA Hero Walk has raised over $2.95 million towards their mission of helping Pennsylvania veterans from all branches and eras.

Celebrating the U.S. Army’s Birthday

Graphic with text saying “United State Army Birthday”

This year on June 14th, we will celebrate the U.S. Army’s 251st birthday! Thank you to all our soldiers for your service, both past and present.

Anniversary of The Battle of Belleau Wood

A graphic with text saying “Anniversary of The Battle of Belleau Wood” over a painting from the battle.

In June 1918, Marines fought ferociously at Belleau Wood, France, halting a major German advance during World War I. Their bravery earned them the nickname “Devil Dogs” from the enemy, and cemented the Corps’ legacy of courage under fire. 108 years later, the battle remains one of the most honored in Marine history.

Armed Forces Day

A graphic that reads “Armed Forces Day” with the official seals of each branch of the U.S. military and an American flag in the background.

May 16 was Armed Forces Day where we thank the Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Space Force for their service and sacrifice to protect our country and the freedoms we cherish.

Remembering D-Day

Graphic with text saying “D-Day June 6,1944” over an image of a D-Day memorial

On June 6, we remember those who lost their lives on D-Day, the allied invasion of Europe during WWII. Over 2,500 Americans were killed, the largest loss of American life in a single day of a foreign war.

D-Day was a pivotal moment in the United States and its allies’ mission to liberate occupied Europe. May we always remember the significance of this historic day, and may we never forget those who gave their lives for it.
