(HARRISBURG) – State Senator Devlin Robinson (R-37) announced $224,600 in state funds that will eliminate blight by demolishing and rehabilitating properties that detract from 14 communities in Allegheny County.
“Blight is one of the biggest problems that communities face and our area is no exception,” Senator Robinson said. “This is a great investment of state funds as it begins the work to clean up problem areas in our community so we can build and grow.”
The Char-West Council of Governments will receive $200,000 to demolish and recondition 12 properties in 10 municipalities. Each property includes a blighted structure that will be taken down. The sites will be restored for future development including asbestos abatement. The total project cost will be $324,205.
The Quaker Valley Council of Governments will receive $24,600 toward the cost of professional services as part of efforts to map, evaluate and rank about 4,500 properties in Leet Township and Avalon, Bellevue and Leetsdale boroughs. The information will be used as part of a community blight fight campaign and property maintenance code enforcement program.
The project was funded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development that administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.
