HARRISBURG – Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-37) released the following statement on the passage of House Bill 1278 – the companion bill to his legislation authorizing body cameras for parole agents:
“I’m pleased a version of my bill – Senate Bill 260 – was approved in both chambers this week. Upon the governor’s signature, parole agents will be authorized to wear body cameras to provide transparency and protection for both the agent and parolee.
“During last year’s budget hearings, we learned that agents are not permitted to use body cameras because of an outdated law. Representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections expressed how helpful it would be in carrying out their responsibilities and duties for the job.
“Thank you to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, the Pennsylvania State Police, the many bipartisan co-sponsors and Gov. Josh Shapiro for supporting this important legislation.”
