Adjutant General, Judges Confirmed by State Senate

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Senate confirmed three district residents: two judges and the adjutant general yesterday, Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-37) said.

Brigadier General John Pippy was confirmed unanimously by the Senate as the 55th Adjutant General of Pennsylvania.

“General Pippy is a proven leader and exceptional officer who will undoubtedly serve Pennsylvania well,” said Robinson. “I was proud to offer my support for his nomination before my Senate colleagues.”

Before serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Senate, Brigadier General Pippy was commissioned into the United States Army through the Military Academy at West Point, where he earned an environment engineering degree. In the Army, he rose to the rank of captain and later joined the Pennsylvania National Guard. Brigadier General Pippy served in Iraq, Kuwait and Syria and received the Bronze Star, among other decorations and badges.

The adjutant general leads the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and oversees the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Two judges were also confirmed by the Senate yesterday.

Simquita Bridges of Sewickley was confirmed as judge for the 5th judicial district in Allegheny County. Bridges graduated from Duquesne University with master’s and bachelor’s degrees in business administration. She previously worked in the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and the Allegheny County Office of the District Attorney.

Chief John Kearney, chief deputy of the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, was confirmed as magisterial district judge for district 05-3-17. He has served in law enforcement for more than 40 years and received promotions to sergeant and lieutenant.

“Ms. Bridges and Chief Kearney are dedicated public servants and leaders with the extensive experience,” said Robinson. “I am confident in their abilities to serve effectively as judges in our commonwealth, and I was proud to recommend them to my Senate colleagues.”

Ms. Bridges and Chief Kearney were approved by the Senate with a 44-4 vote.
