Robinson Designates March 2025 as Irish American Heritage Month in PA

HARRISBURG – Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-37) recently introduced Senate Resolution 41 designating March 2025 as Irish American Heritage Month in Pennsylvania. He was joined by fellow co-chairs of the American Irish State Legislators Caucus, Sen. Timothy Kearney (D-26) and Sen. Marty Flynn (D-22).

The resolution honors the rich history of Irish heritage in Pennsylvania and celebrates the contributions of the Irish to our commonwealth.

“I am honored to introduce this resolution along with my caucus co-chairs who also share Irish heritage,” Robinson said. “It is important that we recognize how our Irish ancestors helped to shape our commonwealth today, from the arts, workforce, culture, government, Armed Forces and much more.”

Many migrated to Allegheny County specifically following the Great Famine of the 1840s, to lead to a nearly doubled population over a 10-year period. Today, about two million Pennsylvanians claim Irish descent.

Congress first designated March as Irish American Heritage Month in 1991. An annual presidential proclamation is issued to recognize the achievements and contributions of Irish Americans to the United States.

In addition to this resolution, Robinson championed legislation to establish an Ireland Trade Commission between Ireland and Pennsylvania, which was signed into law as Act 116 of 2024. This commission enhances Pennsylvania-Ireland relations by advancing trade, investment and collaboration in both business and academic sectors.
