WEDNESDAY: Robinson to Recognize Purple Star Schools During Month of the Military Child

HARRISBURG – Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-37) will host a press conference on Wednesday, April 2, to recognize four Purple Star Schools from Pennsylvania and encourage other schools to apply to the program. The conference will begin at 10 a.m. in the Capitol Media Center of the Pennsylvania State Capitol.

In the United States, about 2 million children have parents serving in the military – and 37,000 of those children live in Pennsylvania. During the 2021-22 Senate session, Sens. Pat Stefano and Robinson sponsored Senate Bill 1028 to ensure that schools across the commonwealth could earn the Purple Star designation for their commitment to supporting military families. Thanks to strong bipartisan support and the advocacy of the U.S. Department of Defense State Liaison’s Office, the effort ultimately became law through House Bill 1867 — now Act 69 of 2022.

April is recognized as Month of the Military Child, with April 15 being Purple Up for Military Kids Day – a time to recognize and support the children of our service members. These young heroes show resilience and strength as their families serve our nation. Wearing purple is a simple yet meaningful way to honor them, as it symbolizes all military branch colors.

In attendance will be the Acting Secretary of Education Dr. Carrie Rowe and Adjutant Gen. John R. Pippy.

Livestream will be available here.
