HARRISBURG — Sen. Devlin Robinson (R–37), a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, announced the introduction of a bipartisan resolution designating September 2025 as Veterans Suicide Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. Senate Resolution 141 sheds light on the silent struggles many veterans face and bolsters outreach efforts through the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA).
“Veterans deserve our unwavering support not only in recognition of their service, but in addressing the burdens they may carry in silence. Trauma, stress, addiction and loneliness are challenges no one should face alone,” said Robinson. “Together with my colleagues — many of whom also served — we are taking a stand to ensure that every veteran in Pennsylvania knows help is available and that they are not forgotten.”
According to recent data, veterans are one-and-a-half times more likely to die by suicide than non-veterans. Female veterans are at an even higher risk — more than twice as likely. In Pennsylvania alone, approximately 250 veterans lose their lives to suicide each year.
The resolution underscores the need to support the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in its community-based outreach, ensuring that veterans in crisis have access to vital resources and compassionate care.
Veterans in crisis, or anyone concerned about a veteran, can access free, confidential support 24/7 by calling the Veterans Crisis Line at 988. The DMVA also provides resources, guidance and local connections to support veterans and their families.
“As a marine, I know that courage isn’t just on the battlefield. It’s also in reaching out when you need help,” Robinson said. “If you or someone you love is struggling, please ask for help. You are valuable. You matter. And you are not alone.”
