ALLEGHENY – Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-37) and Rep. Arvind Venkat (D-30) today announced $340,276 in state funding to help secure a new pumper tanker for the Ohio Township Volunteer Fire Company. The announcement comes just ahead of Pennsylvania First Responders Day, a reminder of the critical role firefighters, EMTs, police officers and other emergency personnel play in keeping communities safe.
“Our volunteer firefighters play an essential role in keeping communities safe, and they deserve strong support,” Robinson said. “This low-interest loan will allow the Ohio Township Volunteer Fire Company to modernize its fleet and continue providing lifesaving services. I’m proud to work with Rep. Venkat to ensure first responders have the tools they need to protect the families who count on them.”
The state funding will support the purchase of a 2025 Rosenbauer custom pumper tanker, expected to be delivered in 2026. The new vehicle holds 3,000 gallons of water and can disperse 2,000 gallons per minute, replacing the company’s 1993 Sutphen pumper tanker.
“As an emergency physician, I have seen firsthand how the crucial work of our fire services and first responders can save lives,” said Venkat. “As a legislator, I have seen how many fire companies are struggling with costs. I am committed to supporting our firefighters so they have the resources to continue serving us all.”
The loan program, administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner, offers affordable financing to fire and emergency service organizations for facility and equipment upgrades. These investments help sustain Pennsylvania’s long tradition of volunteer firefighting while easing the financial burden on local communities.
