HARRISBURG – The Airport Land Development Zone (ALDZ) Program guidelines are now available, according to Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-37), who chairs the Senate Aviation Caucus.
The Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) published the guidelines for airports earlier this month and will begin accepting applications for funding in 30 days. The goal of the program is to generate new economic opportunities and revenue sources for airports. New jobs can be created through the utilization of undeveloped land and vacant buildings owned by airports, with a $2,100 tax-credit per net new job created.
“Pennsylvania is home to a significant number of airports that are true economic assets, and I am proud of the work my colleagues and I have done to prioritize investment in aviation,” Robinson said. “I am pleased to see this funding come to fruition and look forward to the positive impacts it will bring, especially the estimated 5,200 jobs created over the next five years.”
The program is open to all public airports in Pennsylvania. There are 122 public use airports and 14 commercial service airports which accounted for nearly 323,000 jobs before the COVID pandemic.
“Local airports were hit hard by the pandemic, which drove us in the General Assembly to create this new program to preserve our airports and their jobs,” Robinson said. “The program will also give them the resources needed for development through a job tax credit program, which will also be available to a developer partner to build on unused property.”
